I am new to wireless so any advice is greatly appreciated.
Here is the scenerio. I need to connect two buildings together on a farm. The buildings are about 70 metres apart. I should mention that the farm is in southern Ontario and there is snow and it gets quite cold.
Building A: The main house. There is a DSL connection coming in and 3 computers in the house.
Building B: The Barn. There are an additional 4 computers in the barn used for cheese manufacturing.
What I want to do is connect the computers in Building A with a Linksys wireless router (or a similar device) All the computers will connect via CAT 5.
I plan to use a 5 port switch and a wireless bridge in the barn and have the bridge talk to the router wirelessly.
I will enable DHCP in the router, if I can manage to get a good signal between the Access Point and the Bridge, will the bridge act as a pass thru and assign IPs to the 4 machines in the barn?
I know that if I use two Access Points, it will not work properly. Each AP will create its own subnet. ie. Bldg A will be 192.168.0.x and bldg B will be 192.168.1.x, and use 192.168.0.1 as the gateway to the WAN. This will give me internet access in the barn, but I will not be able to see the server in Bldg A.
Can I also use two Bridges? Run wired networks in Bldg A and B, and use two bridges to join the segements together.
I haven't purchased any equipment yet. I want some feedback on the most reliable and cost efficient method to accomplish this. Reliablity is more important than cost.
Thank you for listening.
