Oulook Retrieves Read Messages - Over and Over

Why, oh why, does Outlook 2000 retrieve messages that have already been downloaded, read, and mostly deleted? I have the option to leave copies of the messages on the mail server off. I am using internet mail only, not on a LAN with Exchange.

Please help me not to go crazy!

If you really have that option set NOT to leave copies on the server, then it's not working, and you should call your ISP and ask them why. I'd say 99% chance it's a problem with the ISP.

Never checked with the ISP, as other mail clients checking same mail servers did not do the same thing. Reinstalled Outlook 2000, no luck. Uninstalled, then reinstalled, and all is working fine so far (two days). Thanks for your help.
