otm vt220 access to pbx

I have an option11 connected to a modem and I can use procomm and hyperterminal with no problems. I connect at 9600 with those programs. When I use VT220 from OTM, it says it connects at 28800 or 34000 and I cannot do anything on the screen once it connects. In the system properties, it does say connect at 9600 for the modem connection. Any ideas as to why I cannot use OTM to dial up to my switch?
