Does anyone know of a way to automate the backup of OTM ?
I've been using the backup utility within OTM but remembering to run it everyday is getting to be somewhat of a pain. Could do with scripting it if possible ?
Its often enough to do a backup once a month.
Whats most important to backup is settings in OTM as templates and settings like passwords, numberingplans etc.
This doesnt change every day.
If OTM crashes, reinstall it with your old backup, and update from the switch. Done..
Once a month may not be often enough if you have TBS. If you are using Telecom Billing and that data is "mission critical" to your organization, then you need to be backing it up more often.
The Nortel/Common Data folder is where all the data is kept. We can't automate the backup as it requires that all site system windows be shut down using the OTM Backup procedure. I have had customers successfully backup the Nortel/Common Data folder on t heir network and have been able to get their data back for them that way. You don't use a normal restore, but it can be done.
Ah, that does make a bit of sense, remember seeing all the data in the Nortel/Common Data folder although I didn't think I would back it up if OTM was running as the database files would be open. But if you guys are right I should be able to do it if all the sites are closed down. I'll give it a shot and let you know.
