Other option than mail();

Is there any other way to send mail in PHP, other than with the mail() function? I don't seem to be having much luck with it at the moment...email dont get reported as unsent..but people just dont get them :( I know its not sendmail, as I have it working fine with Perl scripts sending mail out.
