Not real experienced in this area, but in the small amount I've had...
You can't really go too much by the information obtained by environmental variables when it comes to browser type (the most likely way your website stats are being updated). Browsers will happily lie about what they are. In some cases, the "lies" can be a little bit accurate.
For instance, I use the Advant browser that has most all of the functionality of IE, but not all. It reports itself as IE.
