OT: IT overview, workloads, personnel , etc.

hi,
i am task to give to my boss an overview or a picture of an ideal IT department and its organization - what it is composed of, what are the workloads, duties and responsibilities, etc. after then, i shall compare ours with the ideal one.

where can i find reading materials or documentations, or sites which could help me with these.
