Hi, List.

I was wondering...
Do you guys consider OSX as a unix operating system, or do you think of Macs as just unix-terminal capable?

I'm asking because I need a unix box, and macs are so damn pretty, i was thinking about investing in my first mac system. For the purpose of becoming more unix-literate.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jason D.

mac osx has a BSD subsystem, it's all unix with the 'aqua' interface. In fact, I just finished setting up CRON jobs to backup my mysql databases running on OS X. It also comes with Apache web server and postfix mail server.

Beneath the easy-to-use interface and rich graphics of Mac OS X is Darwin, an open source UNIX-based foundation built on technologies such as FreeBSD, Mach, Apache, and GCC. Darwin provides a complete UNIX environment, with X11 and POSIX services comparable to Linux or FreeBSD, including familiar kernel, libraries, networking and command-line utilities.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
