Is there a way to override installp's requirements for dependencies?

I'm updating my OSS software on several machines. One of them requires gnu tar, I have the bff package for that from bull freeware. It requires gettext 0.10.35.

I already have gettext 0.10.40 installed via rpm from IBM's OSS collection, but installp is refusing to install gnu tar because of the dependency.

I much prefer to override the requirement rather than install multiple versions of the library, so is it possible?

never tried it but i assume you can edit the .toc file.

Why not use the GNU tar from the OSS collection? If you have the Linux Toolbox CD, it should be on there. Otherwise,

The "4.3" in the filename should mean that a repackaging for 5.1L wasn't necessary, as long as you got it from the 5L download page or CD.
