Hi, everybody,

This is the setup: Cisco 1720 IOS 12.1
Area0
serial0 encapsulation PPP IP 192.168.60.2/24
serial1 encapsulation PPP IP 192.168.62.1/24

Area2
fastethernet IP 192.168.31.1/24

1. I don't have loopback interfaces configured (I know they are elected as router ID.
2. All OSPF priorities are by default.
3. It is very clear that there won't be an election in either of the serial interfaces as they are point to point.

In show ip ospf interfaces the routerID for each interface is 192.168.31.1

Why is the FastEthernet IP selected as routerID, if it is lower that any of the serials'IP?

Only thing that comes to mind for this is that you configured the 192.168.31.0/24 network in the "router ospf" first. THEN you configured the 192.168.60.0/24 and 192.168.62.0/24 networks.

Do a "write mem" and a "reload"

Check the routerID again.
