Hi all,

I will appreciate if anybody could help. I am trying to configure OSPF on my network. 2 questions?

1. Do we need to have core routers with all interfaces in area 0 for correct OSPF configuration

2. Can we just have 3 ABRs with one interface in area 0 and the other in their own area's.

Thanks
Raminder

OK- lets take it from the top. Area 0 is intended for core routing. Will OSPF work without area 0? yes,, but and this can be a big but, you may have "weird" problems. The routing code AND management tools EXPECT area 0 to be there. I have asked Cisco directly and got several different answers on what to expect without Area 0. You should never have more the 50 ( your milage may vary) routers to an area.. use stub areas if you can when at the end of the border of your network.. i.e. remote sites sitting off in space.

If you have a *small* network.. under 30 or so router, yo might be able to get away with only Area 0. Nobody says that you have to have multiple areas and many people dont.

Cisco also offers an excellent but wordy book just for OSPF.
