Hi all,

I will appreciate if anybody could help. I am trying to configure OSPF on my network. 2 questions?

1. Do we need to have core routers with all interfaces in area 0 for correct OSPF configuration

2. Can we just have 3 ABRs with one interface in area 0 and the other in their own area's.

Thanks
Raminder

Hi Raminder,

1. OSPF design requires that all traffic passes through a single area (the backbone area or area 0). Any router connected to this area does not have to have all its interfaces in this area, it can be an ABR or an internal router as well as a backbone router.

2. The same as above, all of your backbone routers(the ones attached to area 0) can also have the rest of their interfaces attached to their own areas. This makes them backbone routers and Area Border Routers.

Hope this has helped.

mail me at d.bowen@uel.ac.uk if you have any more questions !
