OS4K V7 RMX Problem

Hello,

I have OS4K V7 system duplex processor, the system is working fine but suddenly there are some strange problems happened expect due to something wrong in RMX,

how i correct RMX, also if i would like to change two Hard Disk of CCA processor with new hard disks how can do it, without any down time and make the new hard disk sync. with the CC-B Processor Hard Disk.

This is not hard, but I wouldn't do it flying by the seat of your pants. You have to make absolutely sure which processor is your active processor by pushing the black button next to the display and looking - don't 100% trust the display in the portal until you verify it a few times. Then you have to login to the portal and go to Maintenance, Replace Node, then select "Start Replacement Server" button. Please note this is not a process to take lightly. If you do not change the hard drive it will ask you to verify a whole bunch of information regarding mac addresses, IP addresses, server names and the like that it should get off the active server - if any of that is incorrect or you don't know what it should be do not proceed. If will tell you a number of other things you need to do, and then finally Present you with another Start button. It will warn you very clearly that you will be committing to the process AND it will tell you how to stop without doing anything.

I suggest before you do this you push the system info button at the bottom of the portal and keep that window open the whole time the process is running so you can see some of the status updates as it goes.

You should do this late at night or whenever your system traffic is lowest. It can take 2 - 3 hours or so to complete. The system will start a DHCP server and an SFTP server on the Atlantic Lan and then reboot the standby processor - when it boots it will do a netboot from the active side and then everything will copy over from there.

If you want to actually replace the hard drive first I have never done that, but I believe you would have to shut down that processor first before you remove the drive, and I don't know what the timing for that should be. You can do the shutdown from the portal as well if needed. Make sure you use an identical or another drive on the list of approved drives of the exact same size.

Thanks for your reply, but really i didn't understand what you mean on these sentences

i need to know i must change my hard drives or i can use the hard drives which plug in the DSCXL processor,

the problem is suddenly there is digital station after some days work fine, suddenly if you tried to call it ,
the telephone is ringing and you get the handset, the telephone which is dialing this station suddenly find himself with another two participant's already have a call, and the telephone which we are dialing not hear anything (Block)

i must to remove this station or swap the processor or make a restart to solve this problem.

You need to look at HISTA for when this problem occurs. You have a crosstalk problem which usually would be resolved with software patch. Do you have a maintenance contract for OS4K? You need to get it updated to latest RMX patches and loadware. If not resolved you need traces and a ticket to Unify.

The problem described really has nothing to do with having to replace hard drives, and you're right Corosync - my bad... I never use it for anything and I can never remember its name... TAC just had me rebuild my standby processor a few weeks ago because of a mysterious problem they don't know the answer to, but of course the reason I tossed on the table didn't ring any bells for them... I pushed out V7R2 in February and my primary processor has been a rock since then 100% - first time in the history of owning that system I had no red alarm lights for a whole month - and then the standby processor rebooted once. I grabbed a HISTA dump and from what I made of it there were some disk write errors, but if you go in the platform is says there are no disk errors ("worth reporting"). That got sent to TAC and they had me put on RMX hotfix 35, and that didn't stop it, so then it was to do the node replacement on the standby server, which I wasn't afraid to do because of class, but the nice thing is it's the standby server and it doesn't really affect a whole lot... Anyway, that didn't solve the problem either - I suggested we replace that drive, but have heard crickets since then.... Anyway, back to his problem.... )

Please explain your definition of Digital Phone so we are all on the same page. My definition is there is Analog, and then I refer to the OS40T - TDM phones as Digital (also 410, 420, 500 series), and then there are the IP Phones - HFA and SIP (which technically are also digital, but I put them in a class by themselves).

The reason I ask is because I have some strange problems with my OS40T phones and I have never found the answer. The problem you are describing (now), while unlikely, I would start by looking at my cross connects and wiring to be sure that you have not accidentally connected 2 phones to the same PEN, or accidentally punched down a phone one pin down from where you should have - I have done both of them and had strange results. I have had problems like that caused by water in the outside telco equipment where trunks have actually had crosstalk bad enough that a call could seem to ring in on 2 trunks at a time. In the spring I always point my finger at the telco because I have had some strange problems.

Now after throwing that out there, the Problem that *I* have is that I will get an OS40T phone (random ones) that will be able to receive calls, but you will not be able to put them on hold, transfer them, etc, and you cannot dial out from the phone. One telltale sign of that is We have our own company logo on the phones and that logo will be missing from the screen on the phone with the problem. This problem PERSISTED through the upgrade to V7R2. I suspected software but I do not believe there is a newer version than what I have on them. How I fix that problem is I use SDSU to find another open PEN. It doesn't matter if it's on the same board or a different board of the same type - I use Assistant to change the PEN on the phone, then save it, wait 2 minutes for the change to take hold, and then change it back. That somehow miraculously fixes that problem. I have no idea why it occurs as it happens in many different places and not very often.

Now if by "Digital" phones you are meaning IP phones, that is a whole different ball game as there are likely no strange connection issues. However I am not totally familiar with parallel ringing groups, but isn't one of the side effects of a parallel ringing group that whichever phone answers the call gets it and the rest of them go dumb during the call or something? Or is that something else I'm thinking of? Are you using parallel ringing groups, or possibly have a line appearance of Phone B on Phone A, and if you push the second line button on phone A to get the call does that then block Phone B from getting dial tone? I know it used to on the old 9006 systems if you had your Originating Line Preference set to Primary but other phones were able to grab your line - then it also used to be possible to pick up your phone and press your line button and barge in on the other person's call...

It's really hard to tell what the actual problem is from that description yet, but I am pretty comfortable thinking it's not an RMX problem and you probably don't have to go about replacing any drives or anything - at least not at this point. I would think you would have a pretty messy hardware failure of some type before you would have to think about that! )

OS4K V7 R2.23.4 Duplex Processor (CPCI)
The system has OpenStage T Phones and Analog Phones

Problem
after normal work of system, suddenly we get a problem at one OS40 T phone,

if you try to call this extension, telephone is ringing
if you hang up the handset, the caller hear another two extensions and enter with them,
this telephone don't hear anything (something like Block Voice)

if i make a restart for the system, everything is working normal for some days and the problem returned back.

Note:
for the beginning, I Make CC-A as the Active Processor and all of these issues happened with CC-A

Yesterday, I try to swap the processor and make CC-B as Active processor,

the problem is solved But i don't know if it will happened again with C-b processor or not,

Please share your suggestion with me.

If you have a problem with one phone then I suggest you do not restart the system.
Obvious questions:
Have you replaced the phone,
Have you changed the number.
Have you checked the cabling from the system up to the phone lead.
Do you have ACLIGHT in SDAT ?
Do you have XFBADIAL and/or XFBACALL activated in FEASU ?

The hista errors for VECO & REC are a problem but you don't say at what time the errors occurred on the phone.

Does it only affect one extension? And that's the extension with ACLIGHT? In anyvcase if you are using that feature and you need it, the problem needs solving. You haven't said what software versions you are on but if you are not on the latest, you need to be. sbcsu is almost right with his software versions, there is newer loadware. This is where you need a maintenance contract with Unify.

I can't see this problem being anything to do with using CCA or CCB. I'd expect it to happen on either. Also you didn't say if this problem persisted, or if it happens once then stops. You gave the 4K a restart. What happens if you don't give it a restart? Problem remains all the time or next call is OK.

If you have eliminated hardware by changing phone, moving PEN, ... software is upgraded, then you need some official software support.

I had the exact same problem, call would come in to the extension with ACLIGHT but the call ended up connected to another non related user.
After removing XFBADIAL and XFBACLL from FEASU the problem went away.

It's satisfying to find the config that causes a problem for sure, but that should have been ticketed! Those feasu params are not listed as a restriction against ACLIGHT as far as I can see, a ticket would have either produced a patch or new documentation!

but sometimes the case is happened with extensions don;t activate ACLIGHT for them @sdat command.

if you look for the uploaded files for hista alarms,, for extension 2134, 2135 these two extensions suddenly stop to make any feature like pickup group or get access code for external line,

if i removed these extensions OR make a swap for processor OR make a restart all the problems is solved but it returned back after somedays around 8-10 days from normal work.

system is normal working but suddenly i get a problem for extension number 3978 if you dial these extension from any another extension
the telephone is ringing and if you answered you didn't hear anything although the display of phone appear the list of feature during the call like (Enquiry, conference,...) at the same time the subscriber which calling this extension enter with another two participants already have a call and hear them,

if i remove this extension and configured again OR swap the processor OR make a restart the system is working fine for some days and the problem returned back and not solved until make one from methods i said,

another case that happened with extensions 2134 & 2135 suddenly one of them can't access its external lines or get the call fromanother extension by pick up access code

third case
one extension A dial extension B, Extension B have ringing if he get the handset and answer the telephone still ringing but this case happened and solved without any modification from me,

please give me yuor suggestion, and really great thanks for you.

So sbcsu has had a similar problem with ACLIGHT and XFBADIAL & XFBACALL active in FEASU. You have XFBACALL active. So turn that off and wait to see if the problem happens again.

If you have the problem on other extensions, or it makes no difference, you need to apply current HF's. I have already said that. sbcsu has said that. Here I am, saying it again.

ADP HF does not matter for this problem. RMX HF, you are nearly current @ HF33 and H37 is the latest. I'd still activate HF37.

Loadware HF, I don't know what you have installed but it won't be current.

You need latest RMX HF. Latest LW HF. Then a ticket to Unify if the problem is not solved.
