Hi people,

I had been having problems with my iMac, every time I tried to click on something on the desktop then it freezes.

I reinstalled OS X and it seems to have done the trick the only problem is that loads of room has been taken up by the additonal system files, when I try to delete the 'previous systems' folder I get an error message saying that the folder is associated with the root (or something to that effect).

What do I do?

Thanks

If something is associated with the root then you really should not be deleting it. It sounds like your OSX reinstall did not go well.

Without knowing any specifics about your system and network, it seems that you should back up your personal documents and reformat the drive - - then reinstall OSX. This will clear your 'old' system folders and give you a fresh computer.

...or you can use the Disk Utility to repair permissions and see where that gets you.

In addition to jimo's suggestion....

When you re-install...go to the 'customize' section when you are installing the new OS on the clean drive....and un-tick anything you don't want to install....(extra languages, print drivers etc). It's amazing how much space these 'extra's take up.
