Good morning,

Hope this is the right forum, if not please accept my apologies.

My problem involves a mac running osx 10.4 tiger patched to the hilt.

Prob 1) The mac keeps "losing" permissions to the SB server ie. mac is reading and writing perfectly then randomly and occasionally the user loses permissions to the shared folder stored on the server.Permissions are then re-created and re-populated.

Prob 2) More application specific but maybe someone has experienced similar. While running Adobe Indesign, occasionally when attempting to save the file, Indesign stops responding and occasionally produces an error message "Server connection interrupted" -The actual file does however save to the SBServer.

Prob 3) A relly weird one, randomly the mac drops off the network then comes back again, but still reponds to ping requsts during the entire time.

I have researched this to the nth degree and have found bits and peices about file-system incompatibilities but for most of the time the mac has good days with no errors.

The macs NIC is fine, cables have been replaced and have changed ports on the switch. This is the only mac on the network but the pc's are not experiencing these problems.
There are no log entries reporting any problems on the SBS.

If anyone can shed some light on this I will be enormously grateful.

Apologies to mods if this post is in the wrong place.

Google connecting a Mac to an SBS server. I believe you will need to disable SMB signing on the server via group policy. This will allow the mac to properly negotiate connections to your SBS server.

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestions gentlemen but deeper investigation suggests there are potentially 2 errors and we need to solve the Adobe Indesign issue first to see whether that is the primary problem.

Will let you know...

Make sure you have your mac and SBS server configured per this article.

Then address the InDesign issue. They are both related to network connectivity so my thought is that once you address the network configuration of your Mac and SBS server this issue may be resolved too.

If not, this issue may be resolved by upgrading your Adobe InDesign to CS4.

Many thanks mofusjtf.

Oddly the other CS3 apps work fine. Only InDesign is causing (much) pain.

Now, changes made under InDesign are randomly "lost" even though we are saving to the desktop, ie some changes are being saved and some not.

I don't want to go off topic so I won't go into too much detail.

Many thanks for all the help thus far.

No problem.

I found on a thread via google that InDesign in CS3 is very buggy. Most users said they upgraded to CS4 and their issues went away. It is not the most cost effective solution but it is worth a look. Maybe try a trial of CS4 InDesign and see what happens. If it is problem free, go ahead with the upgrade.

Thanks all,

We are now saving to the desktop instead of the network share, seems that is the only (?) way to bypass the connection errors.

Still having major problems with InDesign tho'. I have moved the issue to the relevant forum before the mods move it :)
