I have been running into a wall of sorts with my Mac OS X Network Preferences. I noticed it in OS 10.2 and it's still a problem in 10.2.8. When I go to Apple/Location... it just says Open Network Prefs. I open them, and here's what I do:
1) Add new location called "Broadband", it is the only location and there were no others to choose from
2) Setup the TCP/IP for DHCP, we use a router so there are no special settings needed, turn on AppleTalk
3) Click Apply Now
4) Close the System Prefs. window and click Apply when I am prompted to
These settings do not get saved. I don't get any connection. If I go back to Location... my location is not in the menu and the only option is to open Network Prefs. I'm an avid OS 9 user and so I am used to extensions and them being missing, but OS X does not even show me an inkling of how to figure out what the problem is. As far as I know, my permissions are all in order and I don't think I'm missing a step. Help!
