Does anyone know if there are any emu projects underway that would allow you to run OS-X applications under OS 8, or 9?

Thanks

Sorry - no such thing.

The emulator is called OSX. Emulators are primarily created to run legacy apps, not the other way around. Your question is like asking how to run a Windows XP program on a Commodore 64 computer.

Well it's the same hardware, but the OS is different. So I was just wondering if there was anyone out there that has had the idea, or project? It would be more like an emu to run solaris X86 apps on a windows based machine.

Why would anyone go to the trouble to make an OSX emulator when you can simply load the real operating system on the Mac? OSX and OS9 can reside on the same drive with no problem. The idea of an emulator is silly. I thought you hated OSX anyway. ;)

Can you run WinXP apps in Win3.1?

Well the idea is to nottake up 2 gb's just to hae 2 OSs installed :p

Yeah I know it's a stupid idea and I'm a dinosaur, but I personaly think it would be nice to run these newer macOSX apps on a 8.6, or 9.X based system like on an early biege G3 without taking up the resources the OS-X takes. aaa.. A better example.. any of you familiar with lindows? When it first came out it was supposed to be able to run windows apps on linx with-out the headache of windows being installed, or run. I forgot what the thing was called, lame I think? It allows you to run office in the linux environment.
So on OS 9 for example I could run the latest iMovie, or iDvd on a 9600 or biege G3 without OS-X installed.

Is that explained better yet :p

All of the sucsessful emulations take a smart, capable OS and make it pretend to be a dumb, stupid OS; that is why so many pretend to be Windows or a video game. Making a stupid older OS pretend to be more capable is not easy, ask Microsoft about ME. MacOS 9 and earlier do well at what they do, but if they were any good at what OSX does, Apple would still be selling them. There is no easy way to add memory protection or preemptive multitasking to Mac OS 9 or before.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

The latest whiz bang apps from Apple are also requiring G4 or better processors for some functionality. This is not just an OS issue. If you are worried about system resources being wasted by OSX, then you do not have enough oomph to even run iMovie and iDVD. If you cannot spare 2Gb for an OS, you cannot edit video.

To be cheap, you can buy an eMac for about $800 and start running with these apps right out of the box. It may be time to toss your old word processor.
