OS X and Classic compatibility issues with burned CD's

Here's the issue in a nutshell:

We burn a CD on OS X. The files are Quark document related so you get the QXD file, the image files, and the fonts.

We take the CD and insert it into a Mac OS 9 system and the icons aren't there anymore meaning that the files won't open unless Quark is opened first. Doing that, the fonts are still messed up.

What could be going on here?

This is not a Quark issue. This is a OS X to OS 9 issue.

What do you mean when you say 'Doing that, the fonts are still messed up'?

Are the font files unusable by OS9? Do they appear to be usable by OS9 but they do not appear correctly when you open the Quark document in OS9?

What software is being used to burn the CD?

Problem solved.

Problem:

OS X connects to server (Windows 2000 running Appletalk)
OS X takes files to be burned to to CD (and DVD)
Files burned to CD can't be read by OS X or Classic (9.x) unless associated program is opened first (i.e. Quark, etc) to open the file. Fonts are rendered useless.
The same happens when files are copied to the desktop on OS X and copied back to the server.
Mac Classic shows the files with the 'PC' identity

Solution:

Connect to the server using AFP only and not SMB.
