First off, I have no experience with Apples. I support a small network running Windows NT Small Business Server 4.0. One of the owners has bought a Powerbook running OS X 10.3.3 and wants to be able to use it at work. We were able to connect to the network and get access to files without any problem. What I can't get him is internet access. We have a DSL line which is shared through the server (using proxy server) with our internal network. Effectively the SBS acts as a router for the internet. We have tried everything and have not been able to connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. When responding, please keep in mind my lack of OS X knowledge.

Thanks

You need to point the default gateway to the server (Apple Menu (lefthand corner) system preferances/network). Click on the Ethernet device and select the configure button. You then have access to different protacals. Fill in the TCP/IP settings required for your network. Appletalk does not have to be turned on.

Plus at this point you can also set the porxy server up using the proxy tab thats in there.

Which program are you using to access the internet? IE or Safari?

If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

I've done that. We've tried both IE and Safari. I get "error:access is denied". I'm sure its something simple I'm missing. Thanks for your help.

Can you point the machine to go directly to the internet with out the use of the proxy?

The proxy is not reconising the user as a user, so its not letting you out. Do you need to add a user and password in keychains?

If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.
