We are planning an OS upgrade from 5.3 to 7.1. The server in question is a hub for files coming in and going out via sftp, using ssh keys. Do I need to take any precautions regarding authorized_keys and known_hosts?

Thanks,
Michael

I recommend you work on a slower but steady process, taking a leap from 5.3 to 7.1, might come as a big surprise.

Go with 6.1 1st then after a week or atleast after couple of days jump from 6.1 to 7.1

Those files should not be affected.

Thanks Sarfaraz, but that decision is out of my hands, unless I can come up with a good reason not tog to 7.1 directly!

You might consider downloading only the openssh Version matching the one contained in the AIX 7.1 package and install it on a Testsystem so you can figure out whether it is behaving differently or not before you upgrade the whole OS ...

see following link :
I always use the copy variant because the first was not OK

An alternative way to work around this problem (after the fact) would be to restore the original ssh_host_key* files from a backup. For example, I copied the original ssh_host_key* files to my home directory before starting the AIX migration.

and with smitty nimadm_migrate no problem from AIX 5 to AIX 6.1 or 7.1.
