I'm looking for a linux OS to run on an Intel platform that is powerful on the serving side of things and easy to use because I'm very new to Linux? I've looked into Slackware and Redhat? Any suggestions?

You may also wish to check out FreeBSD - It is known for being an excellent server and also has a linux emulator which allows you to run most Linux binaries.

RedHat is the best for those who are new to Linux. They seem to be set on making it as easy as possible for newbies to get up and running. most things can be configured via gui's and rpm's.
The first piece of advice for anyone installing Linux is to know your hardware configuration very well. make sure your computer reseller gave you all the Docs for your hardware. know what model #s you have and other small details. it makes a big difference in the success of your installation.
