I have an Ultra 80 here with 1gb ram and 18gb hard drive. Not that that matters but since this machine has been through the ringer, we might just like to format the drive and load the OS from scratch. Do any of you have suggestions on the best way to go about this? Maybe some specific instructions somewhere that I can read and plan accordingly? Thanks again!

If the disk is already laid out well, there is no need to reformat. Simply reinstalling the OS will sort everything else.
Make a note of which filesystem is on which partition (from /etc/vfstab) also note IP address, default router, machine name and default domain.
Then do a initial installation as opposed to an upgrade. This will create a new filesystem on each of your partitions.

If there is any important data on the machine make sure you back it up, cos it won't be there afterwards.
