I require to find out the system setting for number of processes on a solaris 5.6 machine.
I am going to increase the number of oracle processes available and need to make sure the machine settings can cope.

How to i find out the totals or do the relevant calulations for system parameters.

thanks in advance.

You are not likely to hit a limit of the number of processes on the system, however if you increase the number or Oracle processes there are some parameters for shared memory and semaphores you may need to increase in /etc/system. In your Oracle installation documention there should be some formulas for calculating the required values.

For example, I gather the recommended value for SEMMNI is:
( processes + sessions ) * instances * 2 Annihilannic.
