Hi,
Is there any way I can get the OS type of a device using SNMP.
Again, is there any generic way to get the OS of a device.

Thanks,
Ashish

Hi,

Yeah you can get the OS of any device using system.sysDescr oid.

Say if you are using snempget utility ... use this

snmpget <Agent IP Address> .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.system.sysDescr.o <community key>

for eg. When i run the same command from linux server for another linux server .. i got this response .

.iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.system.sysDescr.0 = Linux capslnxsrv2 2.2.16-22 #1 Tue Aug 22 16:49:06 EDT 2000 i686

regards,
Mahesh
