Hi, I've got a G3 imac with a strange problem. It'll boot the OS and run Disk first aid fine but won't write any files to the disk. If i download anything with IE it says error, no such device or address.. I realise the hdd may be kaput but is there a way tot transfer files off it? I've only got a windows /linux pc on my network at home and need to transfer the files off the imac. I've got absolutely no experience with OS 9. Is there a file manager like windows explorer/konqueror?

Thanks

Does the iMac have a firewire port? If so, it might be possible to boot it in "target mode".

Basically, you turn the machine into a very large external hard drive, which you can connect to another Mac and copy the data off. I've done this to move my files from an old laptop to a new one.

You'll want to search apple's support site with the info for your model to see if it supports target mode and how to get into it.

I don't think its got Firewire.. Its got USB would that be the same? other than that is there anyway to get the networking between the windows/linux box and the mac?
