HI sorry if this is a simple problem but i am new to macs.

I have a Mac G4 and am trying to reinstall os 9.1. When i boot using the 9.1 CD 'drive setup' is unable to see the HDD.

I have used FDISK on the drive from a pc incase it was a currupt partition but still no joy.

The strange this is that i can install OS X fine, so i know the hardware is ok.

Any Ideas

If you're installing OSX, you should just be installing the Classic (9.2) as part of the OSX install. Boot from the OSX install disk and install Classic.

One thing to keep in mind when you do this is fonts. Fonts in the Library/Fonts are only available to OSX apps. Fonts in System Folder(Classic- 9,2)/Fonts are available to both OSX adn 9.2 apps.

Using OSX 10.3.8 on a G4

Sorry I'm not to sure what you mean. (i'm a total novice at mac's).

The ultimate aim is to have a duel boot system both osX panther and 9.1, on the same HDD

When i go to install OSx Panther i do not get the option to install classic. and when i boot from 9.1 disk no drives are available for the install

Cheers

OS 9 applications run inside a compatibility box in OS X, called "Classic".

You probably don't want to dual boot. Unless the G4 shipped with OS 9, it probably can't be installed with it. For example, my Powerbook won't run OS 9 at all.
