Hi

I am having some problems with a G4 Pwerbook on our network running OS 9.1. When the Mac starts up it makes it through to bringing up the desktop normally enough but then sits there chugging away (looking very pretty and with a movable mouse cursor) for literally ten minutes before it brings up the control strip and is able to be used. We have had the PB for about six months and we have only strted having this problem in the last fortnight.

Initially I thought it could have been some sort of network connection problem but even disconnected from the network it still did the same thing. My next guess was an extensions conflict so I switched it all the way back to OS9.1 Base configuration and still no joy. I even created a custom configuration and switched the control strip off since it is the last thing to load up after the delay, but it was to no avail.

I am a PC administrator with a very limited knowledge of Mac OS so I have no idea what to try next.

Any advice??

It is the network, it's the last thing looked for on startup.

You need to find a folder in the system folder called 'Servers' and delete all the items in that folder.

Also check to make sure that TCP/IP is not looking for a DHCP server to get it's network address. If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.
