Hello

We've got a brand new 9406-800 iSeries Server here running os/400. For some reason, the ethernet line was set to a link speed of 10, and a line speed of 10. I can't figure out why, cause it's got a 10/100 card in it. Anyone got any idea why that would be?

If I were setting it up, I'd of set the line speed to Auto or at least just 100.

If i'm going to change that link speed to Auto or 100, what should I set the link speed to? The same? Can I change this stuff while the server is being used, or will people be disconnected? What about tcp/ip, do i have to bring it down before or after making this change??

Thanks for any help!

I believe that you have to stop tcpip, and then change the speed, and then restart the tcpip, so yes you would knock the users off the system.

Sweet, what's the command for stopping/starting tcpip?

it is actually and "end" command,,,, easiest way,,
go verb,, enter
then look for end commands,,, and then look for tcpip
ta-da

i don't understand.

I type in "go verb,," and hit enter? Or I type in "end,,"

Neither of those do anything for me..

Where do you change the IP and Subnet mask on there anyway? I'm trying to find it in the tcpip status, but i don't see it.

For a list of TCP/OP commands,

GO CMDTCP

De mortuis nihil nisi bonum.

First thing to do is end tcp. this will take any ethernet connected users offline. i.e. - you stay late or come to work on Saturday.

Type command, press Enter.
===> endtcp *immed

Next change the line description (mine is ethernet0)
Type command, press Enter.
===> wrklind ethernet0
take option 8 to display/change the line status (on/off)
Type options, press Enter.
2=Change 3=Copy 4=Delete 5=Display
8=Work with status 9=Retrieve source

Opt Line Type Text
8 ETHERNET0 *ELAN Ethernet Line

take option 2 to turn off the ethernet

Type options, press Enter.
1=Vary on 2=Vary off 5=Wo
9=Display mode status 13=W

Opt Description Status
2 ETHERNET0 ACTIVE
ETHERNET ACTIVE
ETHERTCP ACTIVE

press F3/F12 until you return to the lind screen
take option 2 to access the change screens.
this is about 3 screens down, use pgdn/pgup to get there.
make your changes and press enter.

Type choices, press Enter.

(for some reason, we get better thru-put a half duplex. no logic in that, but it works for us)

then restart tcp
Type command, press Enter.
===> strtcp

you can view your subnet mask by keying:
netstat *ifc

to change the subnet mask, while the ethernet is down, delete and recreate the interface.
