Hi

I am new to MACs and I have just installed os10.5 and it does not see my M1 Rip on a TCP/IP network. (Canon IR8500 printer)

There should be a way for me to link up the MAC to the M1.

I have tried to follow the instructions of the MAC web site
adding an IP printer

Choose file > print then choose add printer
Click IP in the toolbar
choose the appropriate IP: 192.162.1.7
Add queue name: //IR8500/hold
enter a name and location: printer room
I get generic Postscript printer driver for driver choice and PPD.
added.

It does not work. The queue hangs and the print files to not make it to the RIP. Any advise on what I am doing wrong?

Double check your IP address - maybe 192.168..... this is normally what's used for internal networks.

The M1 set up for network access?

How is the M1 getting an IP address?

I would go terminal window in the Mac and try to ping the device. If you can't ping it, you probably won't be able to connect to it for anything else.

Canon has updated drivers for 10.5. Check their support site or just google your printer for a link to the appropriate section of the Canon site.

Anytime you install a new os, you have to check for driver updates for all connected devices.

Thank you for your responses.

Jm galvin I have been checking for updated drivers and I do not see M1 drivers for 0s10.5 yet. I have found other drivers for 10.5 but not this product.

Pentode The M1 works fine with my PC's, all 4 of them. The fix IP address is the one I set for the PCs and in the M1. It is set up for TCP/IP.

Check the updates page carefully. Canon made it very confusing. There are different 10.5 updates for different versions of the printer, but I believe one is for ip.

I looked at the canon USA and european sites and all the drivers seem to be for windows. The recent ones are for Vista and PCL, and I use postscript. I do not see any newer than 10.3 for the mac. I appreciate your suggestion. I will post my question on the apple board.

Downloaded ppds and got it to work with Appletalk. thanks for the advise and assistance.
