OS 10.2 and MY EPSON Scanner

I have an EPSON Expression 1640XL scanner on my G4 that is a brilliant scanner. BUT, there is one problem.

I work a lot in Quark 5 as many customers of mine use 4.1 so going to 6 at this point is not an option as I won't be able to open the older version (4.1) files in it so it's easiest to use 5.

Quark 5 is a Classic only program. The scanner will not work correctly if OS 9 is running. So everytime I need to scan something (this happens with at least three quarters of the 30-40 jobs I do a day) I have to shut down 9, run the scanner, open 9 back up and then Quark. Waste of time, if you ask me, but I don't buy the hardware so I have no say.

What I'd like to know if anybody has this problem and short of what I'm doing, any suggetions.

My quark 6 opens Q4.11 files with no problems at all.

The only problem will be if you need to give them back - you have to save Q6 down to Q5 and then open the file up in Q5 and save down as Q4.
