orphaned server question/help w/installing sp2

Netware 6.5 server SP2 , Its the BoarderManager/Proxy/VPN server for my Office. Something went terribly wrong with it thursday. apache2.nlm abends it. TCPIP.Nlm, SNMP.NLM, startx doesnt run... so no management through Nwadmin/console one. Cant see the tree.

We are trying to Reinstall SP2, I get to the part where it asks for me to log into the server with admin password, It wont take it. Ive tried every possible combination of old passwords, diffrent login names, tried my tape device user acct, my account.

Is there a way we can get by this step?
Create another user w/rights somehow?
Edit rights/passwords already in there?

Im stuck and tired.

and will reinstalling the SP overwrite VPN/BoarderManager Settings? ipflt etc etc

You should be able to bypass that admin password. Not the easiest thign to do, but you should be able to escape past the prompt and it will ask if you want to continue without logging in.

I sense there is something more than what the Service pack can fix. You need to bring the server up in stages and find out where it's first failing points are at.

Reinstalling the SP is probably a waste of time. I'm guessing Thurs. you found either a frozen server or one erroring and refusing to shut down due to lack of memory. SP2 has memory leaks. (been there, done that)

Sounds like you have some disk corruption (I did). If the console comes up I'd try a

NSS /POOLVERIFY

to check the integrity of your Volumes. If this shows errors, try

NSS /POOLREBUILD

to attempt a recovery.
