We currently have a GP 7.5 setup that has a seperate database for each for each company or business unit. We currently have over 40 databases.

Can we use Organizational Structures to go from this structure to one DB that would hold all the companies and business units? Would we be restricted by functional currency, i.e. would those entities that had different functional currencies have to be in seperate DBs?

Would all entities using the Organizational Structure have to have to use the same subledger processing options. That is, the same Sales Order processing set up for example. Or would there still be some flexibility in the setup options for different companies?

Thanks

If you have them under one company database then you have to select one functional currency but you can still have other currencies as "originating" for those transactions.

You can use a separate GL segment to identify the different companies and divisions.

As well, you have to use the same options for the other modules (SOP,POP,Inventory) because you set those per company.

If you set them up as separate company databases, you can use FRx to consolidate the financial reports. There are other options available for inter-company transactions as well.

Thanks Barbola

This may be a naive question, but can you have multiple companies setup using one database? And then where does the Organizational Structures come into play? I think they apply to all Companies correct?

When you create a company it creates a database for that company's setups and data.

I'm not familiar with Org Structures...is that a separate module?

I think Org Structures are standard. Setup --> System --> Org Structures.

So with GP 7.5 Enterprise edition 1 company = 1 database, 2 companies = 2 databases ect.?

Yes. If you have 40 companies, you will have 40 databases (on one server of course).

You will also have a DYNAMICS database, a master, a temp and msdb on that server as well.
