hi everyone:

i am new here but i do need to figure this out ASAP.

I am running backup exec v9.0 rev 4454 on win2k sp3.

After I installed it on the server everything seemed to be normal, and I configured the backup job. I did a "full backup". This backup job only backs up the local server therefore I did not install the 'Remote agent'. In order to make sure that every single file is being backed up I even enabled the "advanced open file option" on that server.

Then I test ran the job, it ran without any error and reported "job completed successfully" afterwards. However after I restored the \winnt folder from the tape to another partition, I noticed that there were 5 folders and 2000 files missing from the restored \winnt.

I generated a list of those 2000 files. If it's needed I can forward it to you. It seems to be random but most of them are the .dll and .exe from the \system32 however some dll and exe were backed up.

I checked the backup log everything seems to be normal. I also tried to put "remote agent" on then to backup from another server same thing, a lot of file were missing.... I tried to not using "advanced open file option" no luck!

Can anyone please help?

thanks in advance!

Are they SYSTEM STATE files? There is separate selection item under BACKUP for those type of files. Sometimes it's grayed out.

yes there is a "system state", since "system state" can't be restored to that "test \winnt" folder and if i redirect it. it will only show 4 folders therefore i don't know if it contains what's missing.

btw do u thinkg that "notepad.exe" should be in the "system state"?

is there anyway that i can test the system state?

thanks for your reply!
