This just came up at a client of mine. I have never seen this. The customer number field is greyed out and you cannot enter an order.

The client has no modifed screens whatsoever. We tried exporting the OE0101 screen from my machine, then importing to theirs, to no avail.

Any ideas?

Hi Don,

I have a few thoughts on this issue. I have seen this once before when a client attempted to create orders through an outside process and their programmer created some order header records that contained no real data, including no customer number. This coupled with the F5 key returning these existing orders caused the client to be unable to enter the customer number in to this order. I would suggest taking a look in the database tables for bad data. You may also want to try the oeordlin_sql tables for records related to your "new" orders.

If there is no luck with the idea above, I would suggest taking a look at the raw data from your compfile_sql, arctlfil_sql, and oectlfil_sql tables. Look for any irregularities in these records when compared to comprable data on your laptop.

It may be that order header table requires re-indexing if none of the two ideas above work. If you are in a Pervasive environment you should rebuild the order header file.

Happy Hunting,

Scott,

Thanks for the input. This is exactly where I was heading. Rather than using the Macola EDI module this client has written their own program and is writing records directly to the ORORDHDR and OEORDLIN tables.

I has them rename the tables in Enterprise Managerm then initialize them from progression and go into to order entry again, but they still had the same problem. I did not tell them to log out of Macola and then get back in so I will do that next.

Hi Don,

If the hunt down this path ends in the same result, I might suggest that you have them try to enter orders in the Macola Demo company to see if the problem is a system problem or a specific company problem.

If this is a SQL site, I would look in to any triggers that they may have developed. Triggers can cause very odd behavior if they are not implemented and tested precisely.

If this is a Btrieve site, it may be that some fields in the setup tables (files) are not getting updated correctly via ODBC/ADO/etc... To check this, have them open all of the related module setup programs and tab through all of the fields on the screen, on all tabs, and then save their settings. I have had to create special Btrieve API updates to some fields in the past to compensate for this problem with Btrieve/Pervasive ODBC/OLE DB access.

Good Luck,
