For the given table

orderid customer_name

524091 KEITH
560111 JOHN
530076 HORN
804141 ADAM RUSSELL

when I use record sort expert- sort by--> customer_name,
I am getting the output as
530076 HORN
560111 JOHN
524091 KEITH
804141 ADAM RUSSELL

Is there anyway I can get the output as
804141 ADAM RUSSELL
530076 HORN
560111 JOHN
524091 KEITH

in record sort expert there is an option for ascending or descending...

The records should sort correctly as is, so we need to know if you are grouping on something (groups have priority over sorts), or whether there are higher order sort fields that are causing the result you see.
