I was trying to install oracle 8i on redhat linux but I met the following problem:
after I downloaded the oracle 8 for linux from the oracle web site and copy it to the directory /usr/src, and the file jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2 uncompressed/untarred to /usr/local/jdk118_v3 , then I made a symbolic link (java) to it..
when I logged in as oracle and execute the following command
(from /usr/src/Disk1/install/linux/ directory):
$./runInstaller
I saw the following message on the screen:
Initializing java virtual machine from ../stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. please wait...
but it never come back (stuck)
however I tried to use jre118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2 instead of jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2 but it did show the same result..
system inf:
RAM 192MB
SWAP 256MB
PII 400MHZ
REDHAT LINUX 7.1
ORACLE 8i Release 3 version 8.1.7
thanks in advance..
