Hi all,
I got a stragne behaviour during creating a new Instance on Oracle 8.1.7.4 on HP/UX 11.0.
We stil have a Instance up and running, but I need to set up a second one.
I created the orapw<SID> file with orapwd file=orapwd<SID> password=pass
If I start the create database script the create process breaks down on opening the database with the message
"invalid password file"
I tried the password file to set up with a link or direct - both the same.
Does anyone know about such errors ?

Is your password file in the default location?

oracle_home/ora81/database

Aryeh Keefe

Hi,
yes but the daefult location is $ORACLE_HOME/dbs.
this is the directory which is used by oracle and it pointed to this invalid file in there.

Did you create the service for your new instance with oradim?

Also try deleting the password file and then create it again, giving the full path to the file, instead of relying on the default location.

Thanks,

first I work on unix - so oradim is not the fact.
I will try to make a new passwd file with path .... that sounds possible

Thanks again Aryeh
it works on my 8.1.7.4 environment. I wasnot sure that I need the full path. Mentioned to do this without path in the past.
regards
Uwe
