Hi,

does Oracle7 (Release 7.3.4) work on Win2000?
I have tried to install this Release an Win2000 and got the Message, that it could not stop the Service for the Agent. But this Service does not exist on my machine.
Another person told me that it installed Oracle7 on Win2000 but then it does not work.

Thanks
Michael

From asktom.oracle.com;

You cannot.

Windows 2000 is a brand new operating system that was written FIVE years AFTER
Oracle7.3 was.

Your customer has to understand that:

windows 3.11 (was the OS in place when 7.3 was first released! think about that)
win95
win98
winNT
win2k
winME
winXP

are as different from eachother as Solaris, Linux, HP/UX, and AIX.

It is not possible to run Oracle7.3 on Win2k.

Hi Michael,

Ora 7.3.4 actually works fine on Win2K... There's just one trick to the whole installation process... When installing the server package, do a custom installation and unselect the Agent prior to the installation process. After the installation process is complete, change your listener manually and start the listener service manually with the lsnrctl start command in the command prompt since oracle does not create a service in Services. If your listener.ora file is configured correctly, you should have no problem starting the service and should be able to do a successful tnsping afterwards. Gerhard Scheepers
