Oracle Training

hi group: i am somewhat of an old hand at dbms's but new to oracle and i am having trouble finding training - it seems like the only way to get a classroom scene is to buy a huge diploma package (as i investigate the local computer colleges)

has anyone got any thoughts on how best to learn the basics?

Oracle offers training. You can tailor that training for your particular needs. Classes run fairly regularly across the country.

I was in a similar situation a few months back when the opportunity came up to get some Oracle skills with my current client. I attacked the problem from 2 angles :

First, I bought several good Oracle books which I initially used to get an overview and now use as essential references (via good tech bookshop and internet).

Secondly, I attended one of the basic 5 day Oracle courses covering PL/SQL intro to get a feel for the differences between Oracle and other RDBMS i have worked with eg access/sql server/informix etc. I was pleasantly surprised how useful it was (including course cds etc). I still use the course handout for basic reference.

You dont say if you are dba or programmer etc but all attended basic intro course as it is a recommended prerequisite for other courses.
