Our Cognos authentication is through AD. Currently our users have to log in to the Oracle data source with their username/password every time they run a report or query. Is there any way possible to configure Cognos to use their AD credentials that they logged into Cognos with to log in to the data source?

For reporting purposes you may only need just one readonly Oracle account. You can use and reuse this combo for each and every database signon from Cognos.

I'v tried to push that but it's no go. They want each report writer and consumer to follow oracle security set up for their account.

AFAIK you cannot pass the AD credentials like you can with OLE DB to SQL server. SQL server allows for Windows authentication next to database authentication. I believe Oracle does not..

Thanks can you shed some light on the primary use of the XML session commands?
