I have an Access 2002 database containing linked tables to an Oracle 9 database. I'm hitting a problem with tables containing "memo" type fields, which I think are Oracle Long data type fields - I get the message:

"the width of a Unicode text column must be an even number of bytes"

And the text is displayed in chinese characters.

I've found a number of posts on Google groups which suggest
setting the "Force retrieval of Longs" setting in the DSN to True, but that doesn't seem to help.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I have an answer!

It appears that setting the "Force retrieval of Longs" setting in the "Workarounds" tab of the DSN to "True" is the solution - or it was for my situation.

However, to make it work; I had to create a new database, link the tables and import all my other objects. Re-linking the table, or even deleting the link and re-attaching it didn't - something must have been left hanging around.
