Crystal version XI
oracle 9i.

I installed oracle 9.2.0.1 recently.I was trying to connect to Oracle database through Cystal reports Version X1.
When I click on "Create New Connection"- "Oracle Server" I get the dialog
Oracle server
Connection:
Service-
User Id
Password.

In the oracle database I see (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=mirage)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=adh)))

so in the above dialog box I entered
Service - adh
as far as I remember I did not give any userid, password when I was installing Oracle, any way I tried different possible options, like "sa" "password"

but I get the error message:
Login failed
Details:Ora-01017 Invalid/Username password;logon denied
[Database Vendor Code: 1017]

on click of "Ok"
the message is:
Login failed
Details: Incorrect Username/password. OCI call:OCISessionBegin [Database Vendor Code: 1017]

I see that "Oci.dll" file is installed properly in C:\oracle\ora92\bin
and I included this path in the system path variable.

I really am not sure what the user name and password should be , can any one suggest where in the database I can reset the password??
Pl. advise

Oracle does expect you to supply an admin/pw.

As for hacking an Oracle database to change passwords, that's what Oracle works diligently to protect against.

Perhaps if you post in an Oracle forum, they might be able to assist you as this has nothing to do with Crystal, you simply don't know your admin name nor password.

Hi,
If you, in fact, installed the Oracle Database then you know the system and sys passwords and can create users and passwords.
If all you did, as I suspect, was install the Oracle client, then you need to contact the Oracle DBA for the 'adh' Instance and have a username/password set up with the permissions needed to base your reports on that database.

The Oracle 9i forum will give more details..
