Hi,
I am trying to install oracle 8i in my win 2000 prof. system. When i put the cd in cd drive it shows the setup screen. After i press install nothing will happen, after 20sec the set up screen also disappear. I dont know what to do.

If you have a Pentium 4, search the comp.databases.oracle.*
groups in Google to find the work around..
Search for "Pentium 4" ...

It involves copying the CD to a hard drive and renaming one of the files..

( If you can, install v9.x instead, it has no Pentium 4 problems)

There are several workarounds for this problem:

1. Apply patch 1507768 available from Metalink.

2. Copy the contents of the installation CD to Harddisk and rename all
occurences of the file symcjit.dll.

3. Use the Oracle Universal Installer that is shipped with Oracle 9.0.1 or
higher.
