oracle inconsistent datatypes error

Hello,
I have an oracle table with 2 fields type - clob,
Any select command result is an error - inconsistent datatypes. How can I avoid that error - with some transf. functions?

How are you connecting to Oracle..Not all ODBC clients support CLOBS.
