I need some help in trying to figure what Oracle is and isn't. "Release 7,8,9i", "Developer", "Jdeveloper", "PL/SQL"

I have a Vehicle delivery outfit needs to decide on a system to put in place.

They now have several DOS Foxpro, Visual Foxpro, and Access applications.

The goal is to get a final Development system and convert all the current applications to it. My research has led me here.

They will be providing services on their applications with several satalite offices via the internet.

If Oracle was chosen to be the Development System, what would be needed (Oracle System) to implement it.

Screens, Reports, SQL, Development language?

Your help is appreciated

Thank you

You will need Oracle Database (server) and Oracle Developer. Oracle Developer consists of Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports. That is all.

More about it you can find in

It might be cheaper, and easier, to go with MySQL or even a complete MS solution - depends on the load.

Some things you need to look at also is who will be available to maintain the Db/Oracle.

Are there Oracle DBAs in the area? What is their salary? Will the need a full-time DBa and if not, are there DBA consultants available and at what cost?

You may also want to investigate companies that already have Oracle and host dBs/ administration for a fee end provide the latest version of Oracle.
