All,

I have been an oracle dba for 15 mths and since I left my last position the inustry has died a death in England... I am currently a 'CRM DBA' ('yuk!') which means I have no Hardware interaction and spend most of my time in meetings... This is not my idea of fun? Any ideas about good places to start looking?

Thanks

A

Not in Stockholm, Sweden, anyway. We have about 32559 sacked IT people this year.

AJCG,
In the current climate "fun" is a salary and roof over your head. Meetings will be a feature of the rest of your life, might as well learn now how to turn them to your advantage . . . .
(P.S. I'm a DBA for a CRM system too - in the last week I ugraded disks, rebuilt indexes, tuned the SGA a bit - it's a question of writing your own agenda - which brings me back to meetings!)

Post your resume anywhere you can. I am in the US and tell people all the time, if it's been two weeks and you can't find a job, then go to where the jobs are. That might mean Germany, Spain or even the US (where DBA is the hottest growing IT job). Many companies even pay relocation, so you don't have to. Put your resume on and Edit/Activate it everyday to ensure it stays at the top of the list.

I live in Virginia Beach, Virginia now, but if I got laid off and couldn't find a job in a couple weeks, I would be up the road in Washington D.C. in a heartbeat. There is no shortage there. I have to eat.

Besides, Americans love European accents.

Remember, Nothing ventured, Nothing Gained.

Sean.
