Hi everyone. I have an oracle db server where sqlplus hangs trying to simlpy run... sqlplus /nolog hangs... lsnrctl stat says the lister was up and running so I Thought I would restart it and the lsnrctl stop command hung. I broke out of it and am now trying a lsnrctl start and that is hung...

I tried running EM from a client and it hangs trying to log into the db.

Is a hard restart of the machine the only thing I have left to do?

Have you tried telneting to the server and trying to run sqlplus from there (not sure if you've been trying from a client machine). If this doesn't work, then a full reboot might be in order (although I'd wait for somebody with more knowledge -MAYDAY, SANTA MUFASA! - to confirm this if you can afford the delay).

Ya I normally ssh into the server and run sqlplus manually... lsnrctl showed good status but when I ran it with the stop command, it hung. I ended up rebooting the server remotely. Once it came back, I ssh'ed back in and started all the databases successfully (thank you God)... So we'll see how it goes once we get some activity and some heavy use tomorrow... I know oracle is one of the more robust databases so hopefully we will have no problems...

Steve
