Oracle date format

Has anyone seen this weired date format Strange date value in Oracle database from PB7 "??/??/-2643". We have Oracle 10R2. We have a datafield that is defined as DATE. This is noty a constant occurance. Sometimes it's correct, sometimes it's like Pasted above. Could anyone share the thoughts.
