Am working on a project to convert a Paradox Objectpal app to run
against an Oracle database on a Win2k server. Have 5 Citrix servers
with only about 50 users and the database is rock solid. We seem to
have intermittent sessions hanging and cannot kill them in the Citrix
Management Console or in Task Manager or with some of the Win2k
resource kit utils. Eventually the Citrix servers just have to be
rebooted which is quite inconvenient. Any ideas?

pskill from SysInternals PSTools suite is pretty good at wasting rogue processes.

Although I'd suspect a leaky Java client in here somewhere... is that what your Oracle DB uses?

How often do you reboot your servers? Do you have a scheduled cycle?

Hope this is helpful CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

We are not running Java, and at present we are having to reboot the servers at least 3 times each per day!. I think there could be a problem with the screen handing. Anybody have any ideas on standard settings for the citrix client

Hanging processes on the server does not seem like a client issue. Maybe Filemon can highlight which processes are hanging.

I'm not sure what you're asking for as regards to standard settings - I take it you don't simply mean screen size and resolution (Stored in File, Custom ICA Connections, Default Options).

How does the application behave via the Terminal Server client - does the vendor support it in this environment?

You can adjust some of the client display settings in The Connection tool on MF 1.8 servers, and through the Server Properties page in the CMC on MF XP servers.

My guess is that this is all related to single machines (ie the Citrix servers) attempting to open a locked database record several times. Most databases are capable of allowing multiple sources to access records simultaneously, but get confused when the source is, to all intents and purposes, the same.

I hope this helps CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

Citrix users are unable to use the database correctly because their SNA connectivity at the host(for background
connection to mainframe) does not appear to be working.
(Thick clients have SNA in their setup).

We have had the same problem on 2000 and continue to experience the issue on NT. To resolve the problem on 2000, our consultant had to apply several hotfixes to the servers. I've listed the Q article references. Be aware that some of these are private fixes and may either not be listed or might require direct communication with MS.

Q316404, Q319509, Q321343, Q3117333, Q321771, Q323045, Q323456, Q326864 and finally, 2K Security Rollup package Q311401.

This must be a general system issue with 2K as all but the first two of the listed hotfixes are designated as Pre-SP4 releases. Good luck.
