Oracle Agent authentication problem 1

I have recently installed Brightstor ARCserve v9 and a number of client agents. I have a problem with the Oracle Agent in that I can not get a backup to authenticate with my Oracle server.
If I use the Oracle system account in the backup selection I found that I could expand the database tree for Oracle (I could not do this previously) but after selecting the appropriate folders and submitting the backup job I received saw that the job log showed:-
E8601 Failed to connect to agent. (AGENT=\\NBS000309\dbaora7@PDM81, EC=Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.)

If I try any other Oracle user (such as internal) I get:
E8601 Failed to connect to agent. (AGENT=\\NBS000309\dbaora7@PDM81, EC=Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.)

I am running both the Brightstor server and the Oracle server on Windows NT 4 with Service Pack 6a on both servers.
They are both in the same Windows domain (hence also on the same network segment).

If anyone has the solution or any ideas about what to look for the please post it or email it to me.

Your Oracle and BS servers are on seprate machines??

Try changing the Backup Agent RPC service to start using an NT account that is a member of ORA_DBA. This account should also have "Log on as a service" and "Act as part of the Operating System" priveleges.

If you are also using the NT client agent, you should change that service to start as the same user as the RPC service.

The reason for this change is that Oracle authenticates the user (internal or sysdba) by making sure that the NT account connecting is a member of ORA_DBA. The RPC service does not impersonate so it tries to log in as LocalSystem, which will usually fail.
